Hi, I’m Oldřich, but most friends call me Olda or LoaDy. I am mostly a programmer, although I can be considered somewhat of a maker. I am interested in embedded systems, designing and working with scientific instrumentations and various scientific simulations. Because of my interest in embedded systems, I can also design fairly complex electronics, PCBs and I also dabble in mechanical design. I also don’t run away from having to design something on a FPGA.

Academically, I am currently a PhD student at FI MUNI in Czech Republic where I am a long term member of the EmLab group. My PhD focus is acceleration of particle transport simulators like OpenMC. Previously, I focused mainly on various data measurement and scientific instrumentations topics in the lab. I have written three theses related to these topics. Back in high school, I wrote a SOČ thesis on designing a measurement system with a Raspberry Pi. My bachelor thesis was about designing a system for measuring and visualizing magnetic fields. In my master’s thesis I designed a system similar to an x-ray machine and created some very basic x-ray scans of things.

Apart research, I also teach multiple courses at the faculty, either as a TA or as the main lecturer. These courses include various seminars on digital system design and architecture, microcontroller programming courses and intro to computer graphics.

I also act as a coordinator and lead mentor for several student teams in NXP Cup, where we design and race autonomous scale cars. Our latest achievement is winning the local qualification and participating in the european finals.

I also have several ongoing side projects, either in EmLab or as personal ones, you can check these out in the Projects section.

When I am not sitting in front of the computer designing and programming stuff, I like to go take some landscape and urban photography. You can also find me climbing walls in a local bouldering gym.
